1. Is AHTS Newsletter included in my membership?

Yes. The bimonthly newsletter is sent to all members.

2. How can I place an add in the Newsletter?

Simply send a message to the editor with the details of the advertisement. Be sure to include your membership number and details of how respondents can contact you.

3. Can I get back copies of AHTS Newsletters?

Simply send a message to the editor with your name, membership number (you must be a current AHTS member) and return address, along with the details of the issues required and a cheque covering payment. Back issues cost $5.00 for the first copy in an order, and $2.00 per copy thereafer, with a limit of five issues per order. These costs include postage and handling.

4. Who can attend the AHTS meetings?

AHTS meetings are open to any interested persons. Note however, that only AHTS members can bid at the regular equipment auctions.

5. What do you do at member meetings?

Member meetings are informal meetings. They are an opportunity to meet like minded people. Some nights there are buying opportunities where members offer items for private sale. Other nights there might be an auction of telephone and related items. Invited guest speakers regularly present on a variety of subjects related to refurbishing antique equipment. Members also display specialized equipment that others may find interesting. Of course for any question you always wanted answered, or for any item of equipment you wanted identified, you will likely find a member who can supply an answer or lead you towards one. The overall intent is that you go home looking forward to the next meeting.

6. Can I bring guests to AHTS functions?

Yes. All AHTS events are open to any interested persons.

7. How can I pay for my subscription?

There are two ways to pay for membership subscriptions. The first is to hand a completed membership form and the appropriate moneys to the AHTS secretary at one of the bimonthly meetings. The second is to mail a completed membership form, along with a cheque or money order for the appropriate amount, to the AHTS secretary. We do not currently have a facility for credit card payments.

8. Can I join over the phone, Internet, or by fax?

It is not possible to join over the phone, Internet, or by fax. The primary reason for this is that we don't have facilities to accept payments when using these media.

9. What is the term of my membership?

The term of a membership is always until the end of the current financial year (ending midnight on June 30).

10. What grades of membership are there?

There are four grades of membership:

  1. Member
Nearly all society members are in this category
  2. Life Memeber
This grade of membership is bestowed by the committee in exceptional cases.
  3. Honorary Member
This grade of membership is bestowed by the committee in exceptional cases. For example, to the spouse of a life member that has passed away.
  4. Reciprocal Member
This grade of membership is typically reserved for other communications and related societies, and provides a means for distributing our newsletter to them.

11. Is my membership tax deductible?

You'll need to get the advice of an accountant as each individual's case will be different. However in general, if your membership contribution is an expense incurred in earning your income, then you will most likely have a case for it to be tax deducible.
